CREATING DIRECTION & CLARITY

FROM ANSWERS TO SENSEMAKING

Hey there!

We’re looking forward to seeing you in the session on Creating Direction & Clarity, the second module of the Leadership Journey.

In this interactive session, we’ll look at how you bring direction and clarity to your team through the lens of the Leadership COMPAS and translate that into what your people need from you when things keep moving.

As a leader, you’re one of the biggest sources of clarity for your team, also on the days when you don’t have all the answers yourself. When we looked at the leadership analysis together, one thing stood out: the biggest need was in bringing more structure to how we as leaders set direction and expectations at Facil.

That is exactly what this session gives you: a concrete tool to make your meetings and messages clear, so you leave with something you can put to use the very next day, and with a sense of what to do when clarity is hard to give.

You’ll be in the same group as last time, so we can pick up where we left off and like before we’ll keep it practical and hands-on.

To help us tailor the session to your reality, we’d love for you to answer three short questions in advance. This will ensure we start fully aligned with what you need today.

THE CORE BOOKLET

Your guide to preparing a meeting with the four CORE questions: why you meet, what you want to reach, who contributes what, and what you agree. We’ll work in it together during the session.

THE LEADERSHIP ALIGNMENT

The worksheet you’ll use to line up your own read of leadership with your manager and your team. We start it in the session and you take it into your conversations after.

YOUR LEADERSHIP JOURNEY

This module is the second of three in The Foundations, the opening track of the Leadership Journey.

Together they build a shared foundation for people leadership at Facil, anchored in the Leadership COMPAS.

We start by setting the framework, move on to creating direction and clarity and end with the conversations that move your team forward.

SOMETHING TO REFLECT ON BEFORE WE START...

CLARITY IS NOT A SOFT SKILL

Your brain is a prediction machine. All day, quietly, it’s guessing what comes next and getting your body ready for it. When it knows what’s coming, that runs smoothly and costs almost nothing. When it doesn’t, it has to work harder. It fills the gap with a guess, usually a careful one, and it burns energy doing it.

That is what a lack of clarity does to your team. It’s not that people aren’t committed or don’t want to move. It’s that an unclear situation quietly taxes them. They spend energy filling in what they haven’t been told, and that energy no longer goes into the work.

You see it in the small signals. The extra questions coming your way. Someone waiting to act until they’re sure. A version of the story that got filled in because no one offered the real one. None of that is resistance. It’s a brain doing its job with too little to go on.

Which is why clarity is not a soft skill. It’s one of the most practical things you give your team. Not more information, but a shared picture they can act on without second-guessing it.

In this module, we look at where that picture goes fuzzy in your world, and what you can do to sharpen it.

One thing to try this week: before your next meeting or message, ask yourself one question: what does my team need in order to predict what comes next? Then say that part out loud first, even if the rest is still moving. You’ll often find it’s a single sentence, and that it takes the edge off the guessing.

See you soon in the session.

THE LEADERSHIP COMPAS

CLARITY

· Listen to understand and communicate clearly

A leader at Facil listens with genuine curiosity and respect to first understand all perspectives before speaking. When you communicate, do so in a simple, empathetic and factual way, ensuring clarity across cultures and teams.

· Take initiative and follow through

A leader at Facil takes ownership without taking over. You act with a can-do spirit, take initiative to move things forward, and entrust Fasteneers with their own responsibilities. You set clear expectations and follow through.

· Empower Fasteneers to grow and shine

A leader at Facil builds trust, delegates meaningful work, and actively coaches Fasteneers to develop their strengths. You make contributions visible, celebrate progress and share credit generously.

· Zoom out to see the bigger picture and act for shared success

A leader at Facil takes a global, company-wide perspective. You consider how decisions impact other teams and the organisation as a whole, connecting stakeholders across regions and silos.

· Stay agile and steady through changes

A leader at Facil looks ahead and constructively challenges the status quo. You act as a beacon of stability for your team, calm and agile, implementing the adaptations needed to navigate uncertainty.

· Build trust through carefrontation

A leader at Facil pairs honesty with care. You create psychological safety by giving and inviting clear, respectful feedback, and by owning outcomes. You model authenticity and support open dialogue so everyone, including yourself, can learn and improve together.
